100% Malbec from an extremely low yielding 80-100 year old vineyard, located in the La Consulta of the Uco Valley, one of the best Malbec-growing regions in the world. The vineyard stands at 4000+ feet high, enjoying great sun exposure and cool night time temperatures that allow the grapes to reach optimum ripeness, with good acidity. The wine is aged for 14 months in Taransaud and Demptos French oak barrels (the same coopers used by the best estates in Bordeaux). French winemaker Philippe Caraguel gets the fruit to oak balance just right though, the wine shines through with a pretty bouquet full of lavender and violets surrounding abundant blueberry and plum on the nose. With more air earthy mineral notes begin to show, with some cedar and subtle hints of tobacco and coffee, very reminiscent of a great bottle of Bordeaux. Medium-full bodied and richly textured on the palate, with layers of blueberry and blackberry fruits. The tannins are well integrated and amazingly smooth, the product of zero pumping (gravity flow winemaking). This wine has plenty of oomph, but has a sense of sophistication and stony freshness about it too.
