2017 Morgen Long Black Label Chardonnay
The 2017 Willamette Valley Chardonnay Black Label presents with bright, clean and briny aromatics of wet rocks, minerals, Buddha’s hand, mango skin, green apple, and smokey salinity. The palate is dry, with refreshing acidity and a generous citrus and brine finish.

Vintage Notes: A vintage of the sky, 2017 got off to a slow start, but set heavy, and closed somewhat cool and damp. Harvested fruit was clean, with vibrant, tensile characteristics and moderate ripeness. The consistency and precociousness of Dijon clone was a welcome ballast to the spectrum of ripeness from old vine heritage clones. The wines from 2017 are welcoming, airy, vibrant and sleek, with a humble density.
Vinification Notes: Each lot of Chardonnay was hand-picked with an eye to site character, balancing tension and ripeness. Pressed hard as whole clusters, the juice was settled overnight before a small dose of SO2 was added. Fermentation commenced with native yeasts though malolactic conversion completed first. After six months in 10% new French oak barrels and 90% old French oak barrels, the wine was transferred to stainless steel to retain freshness as it completed primary fermentation. After eleven months in steel on lees, the wine was lightly fined with bentonite before a gentle lenticular filtration.
