It's been a long time since we have done a special sit-down event, and so we're extra excited. Of course it's extra nice that with Nero, we now have our very own venue for such things. The first on in this upcoming series is called "The Apex of Italy".
By the apex, I mean the best of the best. There will be an opening Spritz for meet and greet, and then four main attractions. These four wines are the top tiers of their respective regions. We will start in the mountainous North with an incredible white from the Collio. Then down to Tuscany for an extremely limited and hard-to-get Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, the new 'Grand Cru' of Chianti. Onwards to the bolder Brunello di Montalcino, and back North for a monster Barolo. If you all behave, there might even be a Vin Santo with Amarettini at the end.
There will be some assorted cheeses, salumi and other delights so you can appreciate the wines the way they are supposed to be enjoyed. This however is not a traditional wine dinner, so make dinner plans, if you are very hungry.
We ask that you please come in even-numbered groups if at all possible. We have six seats at the bar for single guests.
Seats are obviously limited. The price for this experience is $95 pp. VIPs get first crack, then we will open it up to the public until sold out. If you go way back with us, you know not to wait. I believe the fastest we've ever sold out one of our 32 seat wine dinners was 9 minutes.
(Part of the proceeds will go to commissioning a plaque honoring our dear late friends, chef Scott Lilly and chef Richard Bartlett, who were the culinary muscle behind so many of our epic wine dinners in the past.)
Nero is located at 245 Van Buren St. in the heart of the Whit.
